International Day of the Dog

The International Day of the Dog was celebrated in 2007 on Sunday 29th April 2007.  To mark the occasion a picnic was organised by the Kingborough Dog Walking Association at the Dru Point off-lead dog exercise area. The event was a great opportunity to catch up with a picnic lunch and for the dogs to play and socialise in a safe environment.

The first International Day of the Dog was launched during 2006, the Chinese year of the dog. Sunday 30th April 2006 was a day full of events to celebrate the joy that dogs can bring to their human partners everywhere.

Each year it is intended that there will be a specific campaign for the benefit of dogs and their carers and the first two events called for an end to bullying and abuse of dogs. In 2008 the theme will be about supporting rescue shelters and animal shelters.

All dog carers are asked to make this day very special both for themselves and for their dogs, by spending just a little more time with their dogs and friends.
