International Day of the Dog - Sunday 26th April 2009

The first International Day of the Dog was launched during 2006, the Chinese year of the dog.

The International Day of the Dog was celebrated in 2007 and 2008 in Hobart by events organised by the Kingborough Dog Walking Association, at the Dru Point off-lead dog exercise area. These events are great opportunities to catch up with a picnic morning tea, and for dogs to play and socialise in a safe environment.

Each year it is intended that there will be a specific campaign for the benefit of dogs and their carers and the first two events called for an end to bullying and abuse of dogs.

In 2008 the theme was about supporting rescue shelters and animal shelters.

In 2009 we will be hosting a picnic morning tea at Dru Point off-lead exercise area on Sunday morning 26th April in conjunction with the Dogs’ Home.

All dog carers are asked to make this day very special both for themselves and for their dogs, by spending just a little more time with their dogs and friends.

The International Day of the Dog is an initiative of Jan Fennell, the Dog Listener, and you can find out more about the event on the following website:
