This walk commences along the Main Fire Trail. About 100 metres up the track a sign provides details of the walking options.

Head right up the Lenah Valley Fire Trail which is a  well formed 4 wheel drive track with some rough patches of exposed rocks, loose gravel and roots.

After approximately 500 metres the track turns sharply to the left.   A sign marks the beginning of the Lenah Valley Track.  The initial stage is steep with stone steps and a chain handrail.  This track is quite narrow with  exposed tree roots and rocks and can be slippery.

The ruins of an old stone fire palce mark the beginning with the Old Hobartian Track.  Continue to the left towards Newtown Falls.  From here the track isn’t so steep as it skirts around the mountain side and past the Newtown falls.  Through the trees you can catch views over the Derwent River, Hobart suburbs and beyond.

The Lenah Valley Track ends where it meets the Old Farm Track. Turn right up this steep 4WD track for a 20 minute climb to Junction Cabin.

Return via the Lenah Valley Fire Trail.  This 4WD track drops steeply in parts as it winds down to into Lenah Valley.  Loose gravel makes the walk slippery and slow.  Half way down you cross the Lenah Valley Track which can be taken for a slightly easier walk.  Otherwise continue down the Lenah Valley Fire Trail
